Music for pleasure

5 Mar 2005. Mostly English songs, from Dowland to Novello, by two Australian singers. When Glenn began the evening with Come again there was a collective sigh of pleasure from the packed audience. 540€ raised in aid of tsumani relief via Zonta International.

 

 

Entr’amis à Ventenac

8 April 2005. A mainly French group of eight amateur singers and two accompanists in a variety of songs, duets and short choral works from Monteverdi to Bernstein. 300€ raised in aid of Médecins Sans Frontières.

29 July 2005. This excellent young English baritone sang a programme of lieder, mélodies and songs. Particularly memorable were Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen (Mahler) and the witty Chansons Gaillardes by Poulenc.

2 September 2005. A superb début recital by two 18 year old English musicians, who had already played before VIPs at Buckingham Palace and the Palais de Versailles.

 

Soirée consacrée à Clara Schumann

Entr’amis and friends

24 September 2005. An evening devoted to Clara's life and music, with slide show and commentaries. Lieder and piano music of Clara, her husband Robert and their friend Johannes Brahms. Surtitle translations from German into English and French were displayed during the singing. 540€ raised in aid of women's groups via Zonta International.

 

Concert à deux pianos

Evelyne Counil & Danielle Pouzenc

25 November 2005. An interesting programme by two well-known local music professors, including the F minor sonata for two pianos by Brahms and the Fantasia in F minor for 4 hands by Schubert.

Les solistes de Bardou

Felix Heckhausen, Gernot Maetzel (violins), Sarah Pape, Andreas Bartsch (violas), Volker Bohnsack (cello)

11 August 2006. The string quintet in F major by Brahms, op. 88, and the quartet no. 23 in F major by Mozart (K 590) were sublimely played by these young German professionals, here in the Languedoc for  their annual summer stay at Bardou, the hamlet in the Cevennes lovingly restored by Klaus and Jean Erhardt.

10 September 2006. A very moving recital of mainly French mélodies and English/American song, including some of Copland’s settings of Emily Dickinson poetry. 625€ raised for Médecine Aide et Présence.

Les nuits d'été

26 May 2007. This talented young concert soloist gave us a variety of French and English songs, the centrepiece being Les Nuits d'Été by Berlioz. 100€ raised in aid of Ingénieurs Soutien aux Pays en Voie de Développement (ISPVD).

 

Summer school 2007

4 August 2007 - a free recital by seven singers at the end of their week-long singing workshop and masterclasses under the direction of Helen Lawson, who brought over four  talented young RSAMD singing students for the week. Helen, accompanied by Celia, also sang herself - Debussy's Trois chansons de Bilitis.

 

Les nuits d'automne

2 December 2007. Songs in English, French and German were beautifully sung by Robin, and Michel also played some solo pieces by Chopin, Debussy and a toccato composed by himself. Her set of Irish traditional songs, recently recorded by herself and Michel, was especially moving. 200€ raised in aid of Ingénieurs Soutien aux Pays en Voie de Développement (ISPVD).

 

We thank our friends: Chantale Angot for the long-term loan of her Kawai grand piano, and Rex Lemstra for expert piano tuning for each recital.
